Connect NibbleCal to your chat agent

One-time setup. Takes about five minutes. You'll paste the server URL into your chat agent's connector settings, then approve the connection once from any device.

NibbleCal MCP server URL
https://nibblecal-mcp-fed2badb.alpic.live/mcp

Same URL works for every client. Paste it into the connector / MCP settings of your chat agent.

ChatGPT

Plan requirement: Connectors are available on ChatGPT Plus, Team, Pro, and Enterprise. The free tier does not currently support custom MCP connectors.

  1. Open Settings › Connectors

Click your profile picture in the bottom-left of ChatGPT, then Settings, then Connectors in the sidebar.

  2. Click "Add custom connector"

You'll see a list of pre-installed connectors (GitHub, Gmail, etc.) at the top, and an Add button at the bottom of the page.

  3. Paste the NibbleCal MCP URL

Name it NibbleCal, paste https://nibblecal-mcp-fed2badb.alpic.live/mcp as the server URL, and confirm. ChatGPT will introspect the server and show you the available tools.

  4. Approve the connection from NibbleCal

Start a new chat and ask: "What's in my pantry?" ChatGPT will call nibblecal_auth_start, show you a 4-character device code, and a link like nibblecal.com/auth/mcp-approve?code=XXXX-XXXX. Open it, sign in to NibbleCal if you aren't already, and click Approve. The chat picks up within a few seconds.

  5. Test it

Try: "Log my breakfast: oatmeal with banana", or "What recipes can I cook with what I have?", or "Show today's macros."

Troubleshooting

"The chat agent doesn't see any NibbleCal tools."

Reload the connector. In ChatGPT: Settings › Connectors › nibblecal › Reload. In Claude: disable and re-enable the server. In VS Code: restart the MCP server entry.

"I approved the code but the chat says it's still waiting."

The agent re-polls every few seconds for up to ~25 seconds. If it gave up, ask it to "try connecting again", it will start a new device code.

"I get a 402 / quota error on photo logging or recipe generation."

You've hit the free-tier daily quota for AI-powered tools (photo logging, barcode lookup, recipe generation). Upgrade to Pro from Settings for unlimited use, or try again tomorrow.

"How do I disconnect / revoke access?"

Open NibbleCal Settings › Connected sessions and revoke the MCP session. Or remove the connector from your chat agent.
